Buridan just sent me this link. I’m really interested in the role of informal learning about science. I’m not so interested in Informal Science Education, however. One, IMHO, leads to engagement and internal motivation, and the other is a more temporary and passive external motivational experience. Now that people move on to create something ‘better’ it can fall below the hype-radar and we can get back on to learnification. Blogs, after the hype, could grow and mature as a learning too. Jeremy pointed me to this article: The Walrus Blogs » The Failure of One Laptop Per Child » World Fast Forward. I disagree with a number of the ‘failures’ as I noted in my comment on the site. But the XO did change our notions of computing, and was a valid attempt to bring constructionism into a wider world.

This totally rules. My CLD415 students played with marble rollways, and this, of course, takes the cake. I will spam all my students with it.

Rochelle and Michelle… and Buridan were over for a festive dinner at my house this week. More roast elk and cranberries and sauces. And talk. My head was spinning by the end of the evening when the waltzed off into the snow.

I’d been looking for a list of learning tools, and Jeremy found me this Top 100 Tools for Learning 2008list. It is not at all what I was expecting, which makes it even more interesting. Planning my winter course, and I need to get caught up.
